WRCs final-stage shootout idea may include top three drivers The highly debated and somewhat controversial concept has been tweaked to not include the top two drivers, but three. The 2015 WRC race format is set to be revealed in September and its expected that a final-stage shootout between the top three drivers will be part of those plans. Previously, the proposal for a last-stage fight for the win would happen between the top two drivers, but now it appears that has changed. The remaining positions would be decided in a similar way with the battles for fourth, seventh, and tenth all being made up by groups of three. The concept for a final-stage dash was conceived out of the notion that WRC needs more nail-bitters to end their rallies. Race organizers want to keep people entralled on Sunday, rather than have them be faced with a monotonous end to the weekend. Their goal is to keep the format simple and also make the conclusion to their rallies more exciting. The idea has been received with both rapturous approval from fans but also intense criticism from traditionalists.
