WRR recently welcomed five African Crested Porcupines to our sanctuary. Thanks to the compassionate efforts of Marc Johnson and Karen Windsor of the wonderful organization, Foster Parrots, these deserving beauties were transported from their sanctuary in (insert correct name of town) here to Kendalia. Marc and Karen rescued these porcupines several years ago from the cruel confinement they were forced to endure at the now defunct “Catskill Game Farm” (double check to make sure it is in fact defunct) where they were exploited as entertainment for public viewing. Once at Foster Parrots they were given larger living quarters and a proper diet. WRR and Foster Parrots agreed that since the latter is a parrot sanctuary and the former has more diverse species and more space that the two organizations would work to send the porcupines here. Now, here at WRR, the new residents have almost 2 acres to romp about, to dig to their hearts content and loll about in, what is now their favorite part of their new home, a rocky, shaded ravine. We rarely see them as they are having such a great time exploring the woods, underbrush and napping in the comforts of their new digs. Thanks Marc and Karen. All of your hard work and efforts on their behalf are greatly appreciated by everyone at WRR. If you want to learn more about Foster Parrots visit their site at fosterparrots/, and remember that parrots are wild animals, not petsto be stuck in cages to never to fly again.
