For a long time this philosophy was a practice of self control over ones pain or the idea that humans were becoming more intelligent and inventive with their abilities to manipulate their surroundings. Today, that same saying should be looked at as a stress-disease model where negative thoughts and emotions are actually capable of changing one’s physiology for the worse. This concept has been explored from many different paradigms of thought but they all lead to the same result: negative emotions lead to negative physical outcomes. Sources: massreport/the-health-consequences-of-negative-thinking/ To find out whats instigating more road rage, Deffenbacher compares aggressiveness, risk-taking and personality traits of high-anger drivers with those of low-anger drivers--those who focus their attention on safe driving, rethink anger-provoking situations in less negative ways and use calming or distracting behaviors, such as turning on the radio. His studies revealed that high-anger drivers: • Engage in hostile, aggressive thinking. High-anger drivers report more judgmental and disbelieving thoughts about other drivers than low-anger drivers do. For example, theyre more likely to insult other drivers or state disbelief about the way others drive. They also have more vengeful and retaliatory thoughts about other drivers, sometimes plotting ways to physically harm them. • Take more risks on the road. High-anger drivers in his studies report more risky behavior in the prior three months than low-anger drivers do. They more often speed--usually 10 to 20 miles per hour over the speed limit--rapidly switch lanes, tailgate and enter an intersection when a light turns red. This big van starts backing in, in front of me. There is also a car behind me too. I get in my car to leave. He pulls up literally an inch from my bumper. He gets out to pump. (Hispanic guy, if that matters). I ask him nicely if he can pull up please so I can get out. He goes off on me telling me “Can’t you drive?” this went on a couple minutes. Then he finally moved up and yelling at me. As I drove by him, I told him “have a Merry Christmas Buddy.” Negative thoughts and words DO hurt. They can lead to a physical altercation, or harm the emotions of others and the perp. Let’s try to stay/be positive. Doesn’t matter if you’re Christian or not, anyone can be kind. Have a Merry Christmas and spread some cheer. Just don’t drink and drive, and use a DD. The healthy solution: You need to detox, hydrate, and stop drinking bottled water.
