WTO Director General Azevedo, Members Convey Sympathy and Condolences to Victims of Typhoon Yolanda 13 November 2013 – On behalf of the membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Director-General Ambassador Roberto Carvalho de Azevêdo expressed sympathy and condolences to the Filipino people in the aftermath of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) during the WTO Trade Negotiations Committee meeting held on November 12. Before I conclude let me take a moment to express our condolences to the people of the Philippines. I am sure I speak for all Members when I express our sentiments of sadness and compassion, and I ask Ambassador Conejos to transmit our sentiments to his government and to his people, Director-General Azevêdo said in his opening statement. Ambassador Esteban B. Conejos, Jr., Philippine Permanent Representative to the WTO, expressed on behalf of the Philippine government and the Filipino people the sincerest appreciation to Director-General Azevêdo and the entire membership on their collective expression of concern and sympathy. Numerous WTO ambassadors and delegates have also personally and formally conveyed their condolences and solidarity with the Philippines. A Book of Condolence will be opened by the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the WTO from November 13 to 15.
