Waiting fossils ! . Yes, - they look like the bones of a whale, These arches we set every day, With a cover of tin, to protect them, They do, - in a filleted way. And yes, - we the creatures who did this, Were dwarfed by the magnitude there, When we worked to create all these wonders, In the heat and the stale rancid air. Yes, - to the spectator`s eyeline, When you`re driving a `head` down a `crut`, With the steel and the strut to support them, It can `mind you of `Moby Dicks` gut. But this was a home to us miners, In this rib - cage of armour we strive, And we set them each day to protect us, And to help us all to survive. And do they still stand in their setting, Like the fossilised bones that they are, Still waiting the light from the miner, To awaken that death riven scar !. Mick.
