Wake In Fright is not exactly a film that would resonate with the Peace & Love generation but in 1970 (and even today) its a harsh glimpse into a cruel world of drunkeness, gambling and self doubt. The story on how the original print was lost for decades would make a movie in itself. Released around the same time as Performance, Get Carter, The French Connection etc. its gritty and a hard watch but compelling. The music is quite eerie too.
