Want to know how Ive spent most of my day so far? Helping a bride try and get her wedding photos from a photographer that has screwed her over. 3 years ago I helped another photographer shoot a wedding. I was their assistant on the day. Turns out they still havent delivered the photos. They then turned around and asked the couple for more money because they claim to have had a hard drive fail and needed money to fix it. This photographer is based overseas, but similarly Ive had calls recently from 2 other people about their wedding photos from a certain local photographer who never delivered, but took all their money. Ive spoken to that photographer and they were working to make amends last I heard. I seriously dont know how they can live with themselves. However, heres a few thoughts for you if youre planning your wedding. 1. Get to know your photographer/videographer/anything to do with your wedding service provider. Do your research. Find people whove used them before and chat to them about their experience. 2. Get everything in writing. Have a contract. 3. Pay professional rates. If youre hiring someone and their price is too good to be true, then theres a good chance something fishy is going on. That, or they just dont have the experience. I always ask myself, if thats all theyre charging, perhaps thats all they think theyre worth. 4. Hire a photographer that is an AIPP member. It doesnt guarantee that they will do an amazing job, but youll have an organisation to go to if they dont do a great job or do the dodgy on you. 5. Ask the photographer about their systems. How do they back up etc. 6. Consider a bricks and mortar based studio. This is not a necessity, but i know full well that if a client of mine had a hassle, they could literally turn up on my doorstep at my office. ---- If youve had any hassles and need some help, let me know. I will do whatever I can to help. It absolutely sickens me that there are people out there who bring down this industry. Were not all like that!!!
