Wanted to share the Google Hangout from my class last night. In ENGL 7701, weve been considering how to teach literature within participatory culture (Jenkins & Kelley, 2013). Part of our class involved annotating the poetry of Robert Haas with students from other universities on Poetry Genius and sharing our own poetry and remixes on Twitter using the hashtag #walkmyword. Here, Jeremy Dean & Liz Milch offer an orientation to the site and answer students questions about annotating texts using Poetry Genius with a participatory ethos. At the end of the recording, Jeremy offers advice to college professors. poetry.rapgenius/ Wyn Kelley also recently shared with me a social annotation tool she is using and helping to develop at MIT: app.annotationstudio.org Im happy to talk with anyone who has interest in using either of these tools in their teaching or scholarship. Jenkins, H. & Kelley, W. (2013). Reading in a participatory culture: Remixing Moby-Dick in the English Classroom. New York: Teachers College Press.
