Warning St. Louis Baseball Rant coming: I thought Allen Craig would always be a St. Louis Cardinal. OK, maybe not always, but I never saw this coming. The Cardinals traded Craig, who I admit had struggled tremendously at the plate this year, and the never fully appreciated or embraced Joe Kelly for basically John Lackey. There are valid reasons for the deal IF you think the Cards are serious postseason contenders. They get Lackey next year for 500K - thats a steal even at the advanced 36 years of age he will be next year. It also opens the door for Oscar Tavares to play every day in right field. Through Craig struggled I believe he is a proven hitter and will have 6-7 more great years. Lackey is a risk though as he had Tommy John surgery in 2011 and missed all of 2012. At 36 next year, you have to believe history isnt on their side to see him stay healthy. This is what makes baseball the sport I love most. You can debate every thing about the game. Each pitch, each at bat, every move, every half inning, every inning, every pitching move, every pinch hitter, to bunt or not, to steal or not, to trade or not... thats all
