Was interviewed by Julian Siddle of BBC Science Radio for BBC World Service on Wednesday. I gave him my impressions of CERN as being an inspiring place to be, to see first-hand an amazing international project demonstrating to the world what international cooperation between engineers and scientists can achieve in peacetime. How I have been enthused to be contributing to the development of a network of teachers, across 29 countries, who are working together to produce resources for use in our schools, back home in the nations we belong to, to enable teaching students about modern physics. We have gained insight through lectures and site visits, into the major experiments which are taking place, to discover the intrinsic nature of matter, and will be energised with our new-found knowledge when we return to our schools. We teachers will maintain our connection with each other as we complete our units of work and will continue to share our resources, maintaining contact via facebook, google docs and google drive. I also feel responsible to CERN and to my sponsors (Roger Rassool – Uni of Melb and Mark Boland – Australian Synchrotron) to share my experiences and knowledge with other teachers in my country, and will be making every effort to attend meetings and conferences, and approaching the media, to encourage and motivate other teachers to take advantage of the resources we have developed, and received while attending the course, and to encourage them to apply to attend HST2014 at CERN next year. And Especially because the New National Australian Curriculum for Physics includes more modern physics, including some of what goes on at CERN, one feels enriched and enabled to implement that part of the new national curriculum.
