Washington State ranks below average in terms of state and local taxes paid compared to other states. The State Department of Revenue based on US Census ranks the state 36t lowest, the Tax Foundation ranks the state 28th lowest. The problem remains that the state because of its reliance on sales taxes and no income tax winds up collecting more taxes from lower and middle class taxpayers as a share of their income than they collect from the wealthy. Washington State is rated the most regressive in the country in terms of its tax system. Washington State needs tax reform for a fairer tax system. blog.thenewstribune/politicsblog/2013/03/22/washington-becoming-low-tax-state-one-new-report-ranks-state-at-no-28-for-tax-burden-another-puts-it-down-at-36th/
