Watch Senator Alan Hayes passionate speech urging the school board - TopicsExpress

Watch Senator Alan Hayes passionate speech urging the school board to take leadership of our district, put students first, and not to place blame on Tallahassee and Washington DC, but to represent the people of Lake County, because it is us they represent. The only problem for those of us who live in a constant state of fear as we wait to see who the next victim of our dangerous pedestrian ways while the board refuses to provide them with the safe transportation they need to protect their young lives is that he still has forgone any public speeches even remotely near the subject of courtesy busing. It was not until Common Core affected his own granddaughter that he has decided to stand and fight (we are willing to bet she has safe transportation to and from schools). The buck stops here! Calls were made to Senator Hays asking for his involvement when the buses were first canceled. When his staff member attended a public forum she was more concerned with the cost of changing the law (and the funding needed to keep our child alive) than keeping our children alive. A while back he called a former administrator outraged when there was a post saying he did not care. A small change (meaning not nearly enough) was passed through the house by a large push from Representative Metz (and we are all grateful for his hard work), but died in the Senate. When the former admin asked him when and how he fought for the bill, he said he put reminder notes on colored cards for the appropriations committee chair. Now, over this he is willing to charge at hell with a water pistol (really?!?!)). How many children have been hit by cars since the buses were gone? We will never know, because they are not all published. Like the Leesburg High School girl who fell out of the pickup truck because she had to ride in a truck bed to get to school? Or the middle school student who was hit in front of Oak Park Middle a School last year while crossing in the cross walk? How many children will have to die before we see him make a stand for our students in a way that may not be about educating them, but rather keeping them alive. Senator Hayes is calling for a special session to rush through changes in curriculum, but we have yet to hear about any sessions on the 2 mile walking zone. Senator Hayes is asking the board to thwart the law in any way possible (without directly violating it) because he says that Common Core will hurt students, but he hasnt suggested anything to avoid placing a 5 year old child on the shoulder of a road where a semi truck can crush her soul in a moments notice. We have been watching closely, and we are NOT happy at our representation here. If they day shall come when one of our children are dead, remember we said this Senator Hayes, No one has died yet, there is still time to do the right thing. Phone call or not, THIS post will not be removed, and if a child does, we will assure that it and the date we wrote it are in front of each and every voter before they cast their next ballot. We are Americans, Parents, and citizens of the democratic republic of Florida. We WILL be represented at the state level! We do commend his position, but maintain that dead kids are worse than miseducated ones! m.youtube/watch?v=hfe4yPOZ3Qg
