Watch and learn how 58 Canadian Amerindians (30 warriors, 19 women, 7 children, 1 Chief and 1 Traditional Spiritual Leader) galvanized an entire HEMISPHERE of native youth in 1990 (myself included) - and exposed the ugly underbelly of Canadas Neo-Colonial Society and lingering anti-native racism to the whole world...we should ALL follow such examples of courage against all odds....and we should ALL remember - as native peoples - that the Armies and Police Forces of these occupying powers are NOT our protectors....the minute we stand up for our rights and some politician does not like it - they WILL and DO use THEIR Armies and Police Forces AGAINST US! I am proud to call Ellen Gabriel (featured in this historical action) a mentor and sister in spirit....all of our tribes need more fearless women leaders like her ! I am proud to say as a 17 year old I tried to get to Oka to join them - but was intercepted and turned back by the RCMP after leaving Francis Boots (then the head of the Mohawk Warrior Society) house in Akwesasne....at least I TRIED to show my solidarity from a thousand miles away in the Caribbean.
