Watch the Galileo launch live, direct from the French - TopicsExpress

Watch the Galileo launch live, direct from the French Guyana! The very first Galileo Full Operational Capability satellites will be launched on Thursday 21 August. This momentous event will be transmitted directly from the European Space Port in Kourou, French Guyana 15.00 (Athens time). Galileo is the EU’s European satellite navigation programme, and it is entirely under civilian control. Once the satellites are launched, Galileo signals will allow users to know their exact position in time and space, offering greater accuracy and reliability than systems currently in use. Galileo will be compatible with similar existing systems, and will be used in conjunction with them for some services, but will remain autonomous. The launch of the first satellites marks the beginning of the last phase of deployment, following the in-orbit validation phase, which began in October 2011. In addition to the launch itself, there will also be an exhibition about Galileo with satellite models, interactive screens, and much, much more. The launch will also be webstreamed (watch at arianespace.tv/). You can find out more about Galileo, one of the flagship projects of European space policy, on the websites of DG Enterprise and Industry (ec.europa.eu/enterprise/policies/satnav/galileo/why/index_en.htm) and the European Space Agency (esa.int/Our_Activities/Navigation/Galileo_and_EGNOS).
