Watched a great documentary today on India. For those who dont know, my parents are from Kolkata, India- 14 million population, 7th largest metro population in the world. I have visited my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins there many times beginning in 1980 and as recently as 2009. I took Renny with me there in 2003. The kids have yet to go. Now I was born in the US, New Jersey actually before moving to Michigan at a young age- thankfully. Every time I think about India and what the odds are of the life we have today versus where my parents came from I am amazed. It overwhelms ones sense of rhyme and reason to imagine a young man studying so hard that he gave up his dream of playing futball, dropped to 82 pounds to become the #1 ranked student in West Bengal, India. All so he could live his dream of studying at a top University in England and one day move to the United States. But first he would luckily marry an incredibly beautiful woman, raised by two amazing parents who taught her pride, the joy of giving to others and love. They end up together, move to the US. They dont know anybody. They dont have any sense of fairness. My father got raked over the coals by liars and cheater bosses who didnt pay him a fair salary because they knew he wouldnt know otherwise. He stuck to his morals. He stuck to his values. Raise a family, save money, BUILD A FOUNDATION because one day my children will BUILD AN EMPIRE. The truth is we all just live amazing lives and have incredible backgrounds and stories. The key is to appreciate it and respect it. Its not about one being bigger or better than the other. That is small mans syndrome. Its a LOSER mentality, the whole need to feel your world is somehow superior, like you won some race. My father and mother left the crowded streets of Kolkata. They got away. They built the foundation. I have a great life with wonderful kids. They smile and frown like any other child. Look at this photo of this child from the slums of Kolkata. Do you think her smile means less? Anyways, just wanted to share. All this boisterous talk all the time and bravado starts to drive me crazy after a while.
