Water purification in Brass Vessels For centuries, storing water in brass vessels has been said to be good for your health. It is believed that the zinc and copper present in the brass boost immunity and protect you against illness. Studies show that this may well be true. Researchers stored water containing bacteria from the water-borne disease, E.coli, in brass vessels. After 48 hours, they found the level of E.coli in the water was negligible. This is because the copper in the brass helps to rid the water of the bacteria. However, there is a number of germs and impurities that may infect your drinking water. These suggestions may help to ensure your drinking water is safe: • Store only boiled or filtered water in your brass vessel • Regularly clean your brass vessel to get rid of any build up of dirt and germs. • Keep your brass vessel covered at all times to prevent any contamination. • Use a ladle with a handle to take out the water.
