Watford star Ikechi Anya plays down rumours of Celtic transfer The 26-year-old winger originally moved to Watford in 2012, signing on loan from Pozzo sister club Granada for the Hornets play-off losing season. An impressive campaign saw the pacy wing-back agree a full-time deal with the Hertfordshire club in the summer of 2013, and, although his first season as a permanent player at Vicarage Road ended in mid-table obscurity, Anya’s season was a success - with his form at club level being rewarded by his first call-up to Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad. He has since made 11 appearances for the Tartan Army, scoring two goals - including a memorable finish against World Champions Germany following the World Cup - although he has endured a tough season with the Hornets. Seemingly out of favour under a host of different managers, Anya looked off form in the opening stages of the campaign, although the former non-league man looks to be a favourite of current Watford head coach Slavisa Jokanovic - and he has registered three assists in his last two games to prove his worth to the side chasing promotion. It was Scotland boss Strachan who first outlined his surprise that Anya was only playing at Watford and not in the Premier League or with Celtic, and following his rise to international fame the Scottish Premier League side have been linked with a January transfer for the wide-man. With his promising reputation and age on his side, as well as the fact that the Pozzo family do not need to sell Anya thanks to a well-financed club, the Hornets are said to be holding out for a fee higher than the reported £1.5 million that Celtic are willing to offer. However, even if the Bhoys were to offer the current amount, Anya has made no indications that he is looking to leave Vicarage Road, telling the Watford Observer that he has not heard anything about a potential January transfer. “Personally I haven’t heard anything about going to Celtic,” the Glasgow-born international said. “Rumours go around all the time, especially with January coming up. “I just play my football because you can’t stop things, like rumours, because you have no control over that.” Should Celtic FC make a move for #IkechiAnya?
