Wayne Gretzky reportedly part of ownership group looking to bring - TopicsExpress

Wayne Gretzky reportedly part of ownership group looking to bring an NHL team to Seattle. There was a pro club there in the early 20th century that even won the Cup prior to formation of NHL. I am going to guess that not much has changed in the 100 years since, at no point has anyone made a convincing argument that Seattle deserves a franchise over and above several locations in Canada, chiefly Quebec City. Wayne Gretzky of all people, pushing for an expansion team in Seattle...man, that dude is just Canadian when it benefits him, isnt he? Why doesnt he use his considerable influence to help bring more teams back to Canada? Didnt he learn his lesson with the Coyotes? Im playing the Canadian card here, big time...its one thing for WG to bounce around a couple of American franchises in his career after he got traded (despite being courted by both the Canucks and Leafs and never suiting up for either for various reasons...apparently the Canucks called him too early in the morning and that soured him, from what Ive heard, which is pathetic). Its another to be considered an ambassador to hockey who KNOWS the economics of the game in non-traditional markets in the U.S. Maybe theres a REASON, if not many, that there hasnt been an NHL team in Seattle in 100 years? WG was an incredible player, the greatest of my generation for sure and by far. But as a businessman, hes made some brutal and embarrassing deals in the past and hes tainted his legacy big time by doing so. A guy with that much coin in the bank can cherry pick his hockey destinations, and for him to turn a blind eye to Canada and put all his resources into securing a hockey club in a place like Seattle, I hate to say it but Im really putting on my pro-Canada blinders and sipping my why, Wayne? Kool-Aid. Cant help it. WG was a god among men in Canada, still is, and its kinda embarrassing that hes courting the American ownership groups and trying to do this for America when he of all people knows what an injustice it is Canada lost teams in the past and deserves more now. Canadians are very accusatory towards their success stories not doing enough for Canada, but in this case, its totally justified I believe.
