We Heathens oftentimes enjoy digging deep into the treasure trolls of musics underbelly to discover fantastic, intriguing, or weird musical artists. That being said, for this weeks Western Wednesday, we are bringing you an artist who manages to be all of the above at once- Hasil Adkins. Born to a coal mining family in Boone County, West Virginia during the depression, Hasil grew up in poverty and began to experiment with creating music by setting up a ragtag home studio. As he listened to his idols (Elvis and Jerry Lee), Hasil came to believe that the icons played all of the instruments on their recordings. And so, he set out to do the same, oftentimes playing multiple instruments at once to create a one-of-a-kind backwoods hillbilly sound that would eventually plant the seeds for psychobilly music. Fans of The Cramps might already recognize Hasils song She Said, but wed like to take this Western Wednesday to introduce No More Hot Dogs, one of many songs incorporating two of Hasils favorite lyrical subjects- hot dogs and decapitation. Enjoy, and happy #westernwednesday! youtube/watch?v=7Nz9jR_AuLM&sns=em
