To Whom It May Concern: The proposed cuts at Fort Benning will be counter-productive in many ways. It is here that the army trains most of its ground forces. As it stands, there are not enough soldiers to properly train the incoming troops even at the already reduced levels. The troops are getting minimal training and rushed through. Soldiers are already working 12-15 hour days as normal work days with losses of weekends and holidays being more usual than not. If the troop level is dropped even further, our army will not be able to train incoming troops to the standards necessary to defend our country. If we are facing additional potential overseas conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Russia, etc., drawing down the military doesnt make sense. The military budget is overblown due to inefficiencies, extensive waste, and artificial redundancies. Send in efficiency experts, reduce troops naturally by increasing standards for initial recruitment and retention, but there has to be better ways to find and eliminate waste than our soldiers. Cutting troops at our largest training facility will make sure we no longer have the best trained army in the world. Just what we need during this time of growing global darkness. America should instead be a beacon of light and hope. We cant do that if we cant defend and protect our country or way of life. Keep our boots on the ground trained to defend us! Sincerely,
