We all have to have our Hipster moments. This is mine. I found The Fault In Our Stars 2 years ago in Kroger. I had no knowledge of it prior, nor any of John Green. But it was a signed copy, so I picked it up and read the summary. I was intrigued, so I bought it. I fell in love. John Greens writing style was like none other I had read. So I picked up another of his novels- Paper Towns. Then I read another, Looking for Alaska. And then one more, An Abundance of Katherines. I loved each one, and John Green is now one of my absolute favorite authors. And now theres a movie coming out for The Fault In Our Stars. And now everyone loves it. Now, this wouldnt normally irk me, because I actually enjoy when something I love gets the credit and recognition it deserves, but as I scroll through my news feed, I see so many, I dont even like reading, but I love this book!, and just...no. That..that bothers me. As an AVID lover of all things literature, that hits me hard. The only reason people are giving it the time of day is BECAUSE its so popular. They dont like reading. They wouldnt have ever picked up that book if it wasnt all over Tumblr with a movie coming out. Ive even commented on some saying, You should check out his other novels!...most didnt even know he WROTE anything else. Sigh. ;-; First-world-book-lover problems.
