We all know I lead anything but a boring life. I keep trying to get into the line that says boring, but somebody keeps moving the line. As if a broken ankle and two surgeries arent enough, I have a new saga. BATS! Since we have lived in this house (9 years) every other year or so, we have a bat show up in the house. Creepy yes, but Bob is great with the fish net, and I keep plugging up a spot I think is the culprit, no problem for 2 years, then...surprise! Two nights ago, our biannual bat appeared. Bob snagged it, next day I sealed furiously, problem solved. WRONG. Last night again 10:30 PM bat in the bedroom again. I did what any sound minded person does, looked it up on the internet...and promptly freaked out. Words like colonies and infestation do NOTHING to soothe me. Called a wildlife removal person. OMG! More words like, living in the wall void, colonies, the fabulous ability of the mother bat to return to a breeding area just about put me over the top! Inspector coming out Monday. Until then what do we do? Keep the net handy Marvelous! Bad year for bats...More marvelous! She did say they generally come down the walls and emerge in the basement..even though its a finished basement. Plan for now....my basement looks like it belongs to a looney who wears an aluminum foil hat. I have sealed ever spot I can find in the basement with aluminum foil. It probably wont help. but it made me feel better. FYI Bat removal, sealing, etc etc is expensive. FYI Bats are creepy--they carry rabies, they dont bite (good to know), the worse thing is, they are absolutely silent...no wings flappy, just this silent swooping thing in your house! AGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
