We all made another year. Coming from the old school era..As a young person I remember going to the community New Years dance with my parents and younger siblings. The old American Legion hall was the spot back in the day..someone always kept the wood stove going. It was always a big thing, families would bring food, dancers & singers, getting together all having a good time. There was no big prize money. The older ones sat and visited, the little kids dancing with the older dancers, I remember it was either Milo Iron Road or Walter Cottonwood or Charlie Wise Spirit as the announcers, which ever one was announcing..theyd be talking about all kinda stuff, then eventually theyd talk about the old year, then whoever it was would come in with a mask & a big hump back dressed in old clothing dancing around, old year would scare the heck out of the little kids, after awhile NEW year would come in dancing with a big stick he would spot old year and chase old year around until he chased him out every now and then New Years stick would accidently get old year right on the head..hahahaha, after old year was chased out new year would tell the announcer what was going to happen in the up coming year.. I remember him saying one time, all the snow was gonna melt, and summer was gonna be hot lol After chasing out old year everyone ate, danced and sang more then wed go home.
