We are all familiar withe the African wrap, khanga/Lesso (Whatever way you want to call the fabric). This is rectangle of usually colorful cotton or rayon that hold the position of basic clothing for the African people. Mostly women wrap it around their waist as a skirt or around their chest as a sleeveless, strapless dress, or act as a sweater. How to tie a Khanga Step 1 - To wear the khanga, hold the two top corners and wrap it around your waist at just above the narrowest part of your mid section. Step 2 - Now rotate the whole fabric a little way around your waist until the part where the two top corners meet is at your right hip bone or above the center line of your right front thigh. This positioning of the wrap ensures that the opening in the Khanga/Lesso will line up at your side, just to the front and not in the middle, front or back. Step 3 - Now take the corner that is in your left hand, the side coming around across your front from left to right and bring that corner around your tummy to the right hip and fold it back over the top of the other side of the sarong, tucking it over the outside. Step 4 - Now take that right side with the first corner tucked over it and roll it outwards a turn & a half until the tucked corner is held inside a little roll of the waistline of the wrap. Step 5 - Now with the left corner secured to the right hip side of the Khanga waist, take the other corner of your wrap and bring it across your tummy from your right to your left and again tuck that corner into the other side by rolling the waist band over it. Step 6 - Now continue the roll around the whole waist until there is a thin roll all around or around the front and sides leaving the back smooth works too. Step 8 - The next step is to pull the front or belly section of the wrap waist downward just enough to make a curving line that goes down under the navel and then curves up on either side of the waist, staying highest at the back of your waistline. Step 8 - The final step of your Khanga/Lesso tying is to smooth the wrap around your nice curvy bottom and thighs by tugging downward and outward gently until the bottom & thighs are smooth. The waist and upper tummy have fabric creases that are at a slight angle to the horizontal and give a nice rushed style support and womanly shape to your figure. Blessed day!
