“We are not aware of Japanese encephalitis. We did not know that the government was providing free vaccines. In our village, there is hardly any health infrastructure. We have to rush to Sivasagar or Dibrugarh. Farming and rearing pigs are our livelihood. I will sell off the pigs because I’m told that they spread the virus. But will that guarantee that my other two children will be saved from the killer virus? What is the government doing for the poor people in remote areas?”
