We are taught in school that we live in “Land of the Free”, - TopicsExpress

We are taught in school that we live in “Land of the Free”, but are we? I can tell you first hand that when you are told something in school, it normally sticks with you for a while. Meaning, kids are very impressionable. If they are told that we live in a free country, 9 times out of 10, they will not question it at all. If this is the case, then why hasn’t “being free” taken off like a rocket? I think that people are under the wrong impression of what freedom truly is. So, what is freedom? Freedom is delineated by the capability of citizens to live without government involvement. Much like our school system, America is in a state of mediocrity. True freedom cannot be fully achieved simply because my rights end where another does begin. People that are alive today have never been truly free. Granted we have had rights that many other countries will never have. Many of those freedoms that we have can be accredited to our military. But to think that we live in a truly “free” country is not realistic. I have long thought that ever since 1913, Americans have lost pieces of their liberty in chunks. We have a flawed understanding that you are guilty until proven innocent. That is backwards of how it is supposed to be. We have an alphabet list full of big government programs that are impeding on your freedoms. The NSA and IRS are spying on Americans, while the TSA is obstructing your 4th amendment rights. There is no end to the big government. True democracy is a complete failure. Why? Because you have people who do not have a clue about anything political, and they are making decisions that shape the future of the country. We have fallen from a top tier country, to a mediocre country. What I cannot seem to fathom is why we are trying to force other countries to follow after a country that is in one its biggest slumps ever. This could possibly be why other countries don’t like us. Could it be that other countries think we are the most narcissistic country ever? I suppose that it could be all of the above, but that is a complete different conversation, all together. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that where we are today is not where we will end up. We might not ever get back to the level of freedom that we had when our forefathers had control. But I think that this country will make a turnaround. Whether that is in the near future, or the very distant future, it will happen. But to lead this country back to the level that it used to be, is not going to be easy. It is going to take the grit that our grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and those before them had. We don’t have that today. What we are going to have to try and achieve is a limited federal oversight to the individual, sovereign states. This brings me to secession. Those who do not think that secession is a viable and realistic thing, has not studied history and does not need to be celebrating the fourth at all. Why? This country is a product of secession. When you celebrate July 4th, you are celebrating the secession of the United States from G. Britain. America is a country that was founded upon a representative government. Again, if you think that we live in a representative government today, you are wrong. There are way too many people in this country for this to be a reality. Being that there are not enough representatives to go around, the next practical thing to do is to peacefully dissolve the union. It is nothing against the current government. It has its problems, but the dissolution would simply occur under the premise that America is too big, and that we can no longer be the true representative government that the founders had hoped for. July 4 is an important day to most Americans. On July 4, Americans everywhere are going to display their patriotic selves. That is great, but I have to make a few statements. Why are Americans so patriotic on this one day? Why can’t we show this level of patriotism every second of every day? I do not have a strong feeling for July 4th simply for one reason, it gives off the idea that we only care about our freedom one time of the year. As a country, we should celebrate our freedom every chance that we get. Do not say that July 4 is the only time of the year that you have time to celebrate your freedom. That is one of my concerns. Secondly, I understand that there are certain levels of freedom that we have. There is a high degree, which is what America has, and there is a low degree, which is what a country like North Korea has. In America, we should always be happy that we are “free”. But we should always try and improve our current level of freedom. We should never settle for what we have. We should always be trying to push the envelope back towards absolute, individual liberty.
