We are to be who we are, not as we might regard ourselves, and by faith we discover our real identity in the love and mercy of God. Your true self is hidden with Messiah in God, which means it is spoken into being by the word of his promise (Col. 3:1-4). The assumption that you have a self apart from God, that your ego exists independently, as the starting point of your reality, is therefore an illusion that results in tragic disordering of life. You cannot know your true self apart from Gods love, because Gods love is the ground and Source of who you are...
