We are very saddened at camp to report that longtime camp cook Retha Vest passed away this evening after a long battle with liver cancer. Neal Rolett and I got to go see her yesterday afternoon. Neal played and sang Amazing Grace and the Wyldewood standard Northwest Corner of Heaven. Trust me, they were the sweetest, most touching renditions Neal has ever done. Afterwards, I got to pray over her. Looks like my prayers werent answered as Id hoped, but we are thankful to the Lord anyway for letting us have Retha as long as we did, including over 20 summers at Camp Wyldewood. She cooked when I was a camper and counselor and later worked for me in the kitchen. When the counselors saw Retha in the kitchen, they would get excited and normally ask, Are we having rolls?!? Thank you, sweet sister, for your service to camp and your positive attitude. You are the newest addition to our corner in heaven. Please give Mr. Dykes, Coach, and our other friends a hearty Wyldewood hello. We will love and miss you. In thankful love, Robert Powell.
