We are wanting to share what happened earlier this week, with - TopicsExpress

We are wanting to share what happened earlier this week, with permission and knowledge of our dear friends, so that folk will know what to do, if ever faced with a similar situation. One of our friends was driving past a paddock, late afternoon, and noticed a pony in a doglike sitting position. She observed the pony further, and could see that the poor pony had no use of her hind legs. Our friend proceeded to ring another friend, then we heard from them, a little later. Between us, we rang a horse vet, council, SES and 000 Police. SES were prepared to attend, though we cancelled them, as the pony, who was at one stage, caught under the fence, was able to be moved. We did not ring RSPCA, as thought there was no inspector in the area as yet. This was all happening, with the owner not able to be established or contacted. Fortunately, the owner was alerted, and attended quickly. The vet was rung, attended, and the dear little pony was euthanised, due to major neurological issues of unclear origin. We were then anxious to know what to do in the future - what if we had not been able to locate the owners? We could not let the pony suffer, but the vet could not legally attend, without the permission of the owner. We have since had the issue clarified. In such cases, ring RSPCA - if they cannot attend, they can coordinate other agencies. The RSPCA can organise veterinary treatment. The police certainly can be involved, but tend not to want to be. Hope this helps. I havent mentioned names of the folk or pony involved, but they have granted us permission to tell the story. We send them loving hugs, as the are a very loving horsey family, and are understandable devastated. xxx
