We arrived back from the States Thursday night and our friend Bob informed us there had been a fire at 4 PM but he believed it was out. To our horror as we neared Javea we could see a red glow and it was evident things had flared up again and it was very close to our house. We managed to get to La Plana and evacuate our car and campervan and headed for the port area. The fire looked out of control all through the night and at dawn helicopters and sea planes arrived and frantically fought the flames. Eventually things looked under control, so we were desparate to check to see if our house still remained. The police kindly escorted my husband to La Plana while planes were still circling and bomberos with pumps were still evident. We were indeed blessed as the fire had missed our house by 100 meters and all was saved, This morning a fire plane circled and my husband gave a thumbs up to the pilot who was low enough to be seen grinning and giving the thumbs up back. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all who fought this inferno and to the police for keeping all the residents safe. Photo link to follow.
