We at Usborne Books at Home support Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and a couple of years ago, on behalf of our consultants, we donated childrens books to RMHC across the country. We are deeply touched to read how this impacted one young boy... A little over a year ago, our son (then 3/12 years old) had a severe asthma attack that put him in Childrens Hospital here in London for 5 days. On the day of our arrival a very nice lady stopped by his room and told me about the Ronald McDonald Room that had just opened on the Childrens floor. She mentioned beds, showers, computers and food. She also mentioned they had a little library. So, because we all know it is hard to keep a 3 year old down (even a sick one) I took a walk down the hall to see what they had. To my delight they had a very large library of brand new childrens books . . . ALL Usborne books. I signed out a stack of them and went back to our sons room. He was DELIGHTED, especially with the BIG BOOK OF . . . series. We spent hours reading books. I was so very impressed with all of them. They were bright, engaging and physically very well made books. I cant say what it meant for me to be able to do this for him, to offer a small joy, while he was cooped up, covered in needles and tubes. To see him smile warmed my heart, and certainly eased some of the stressful situation. When we got out, I started looking for where we could buy them, and we are collecting quite the library.
