We can argue and debate about rap and hip-hop and who was/is the greatest and so on. We can have our favorites (Scarface is mine). We can go back and forth trading lyrics, records and albums that left their mark on our consciousness. But no one, then or now, had Tupacs infectious authenticity, bravado, complexity, depth or energy. His pride is unmatched and his spirit is unmistakable. He was a social critic disguised as a rapper. He was the young Devils advocate who challenged correctness and acquiescence. And for me and my generation he was one of the few people who held our jagged, broken mirror in the face of society and made her look at the reflection.
