We can get into arguments all day about whether or not this film - TopicsExpress

We can get into arguments all day about whether or not this film is Biblically accurate, and no one would be right or happy; but theres definitely a lot of surprises to be had from THE REMAINING, a Christian film with more production value than is normal for the genre (and a name, in the form of Alexa Vega). It also makes a decent case for what I feel is the greatly untapped Christian horror genre, although I think putting a title on any of this is ridiculous. For its scope and dazzle and even effective scares, though, this film is definitely more sermon than apocalyptic thriller. It sounds hypocritical, maybe, but the message of the film becomes so prevalent as to take you out of it; I understand trying to make a theological/apologetic statement, but it should be done organically, and not in the sometimes awkwardly direct, breaking-the-4th-wall kind of way the film does. It has other things working against it: the cast makes increasingly dumb and futile decisions, the plot begins to drag and meander early on, and it can never decide if it wants to be a found-footage movie or a traditional one, which makes the whole experience mildly bipolar. Its good that there are movies like this making a case for theological filmmaking, but Im not sure this is the one to pioneer the cause on. Still, you could do worse with other Rapture-oriented fare.
