We caught up with Ultragrain-sponsored professional triathlete and registered dietitian Kim Schwabenbauer for a little Q&A session. Heres a look at one of her responses: Ultragrain: Kim, why are whole grains an important part of an athletes diet? Kim: For athletes, the whole grain food choices not only help with meeting the energy demands for training, but also carry essential nutrients which are needed for performance and recovery. If you have a longer workout the next day, such as a longer training ride or run, make sure your carbohydrate stores are topped off by having a meal higher in whole grains the evening before such as pizza or pasta. Add Ultragrain White Whole Wheat Flour as part of your pizza crust or pasta and you’ll feel ready to tackle the next day’s training!
