We completely agree that all forms of violence is wrong and should be stopped. However, we also feel, that crimes on mass scale are made based on gender, and most often directed towards women. For instance, 1 in 3 women according to the World Health Organization will suffer some form of physical abuse in their lifetime, and in most cases, the abuser is a close associate of theirs. The prevalence of this form of violence merits particular attention. Furthermore, this form of violence has its set of particular challenges. For instance, it happens behind closed doors, under often perceived family domains and hence difficult for state apparatus to penetrate. Moreover, social and cultural norms make it difficult to speak about this issue, and have a tendency to blame the survivor. It is certainly true that all forms of violence is wrong. However, the prevalence of, particular challenges associated with, and protection of social norms given to gender based violence merits a special response. This platform is meant to enable an environment for us to come up with and promote such responses.
