We do not have an ice maker and buy bagged ice at the store. A few - TopicsExpress

We do not have an ice maker and buy bagged ice at the store. A few nights ago we ran out of ice and it was too stormy to go out. Jackie taught me this neat trick for making ice. Youll need some ice cube trays (Theres a good chance your fridge came with them or they may be hiding somewhere in your kitchen.) And, youll need some clean drinking water. Heres how its done: Pour water in the trays. Then, carefully lift the trays into the freezer compartment of your refrigerator. A lot of times there is a special shelf in there just for this purpose. (Note: Do not attempt to put the trays in the compartment below the freezer. It takes way longer to make ice there. I put some trays in there a few days ago and the water is still in a liquid state. I know what youre thinking; Why dont they post a label inside the fridge suggesting to use the freezer compartment for more efficient ice production?) Now, close the freezer door and wait several hours, then remove the trays. Twisting the trays will cause the now frozen water to disrupt from the tray. Carefully dump the cubes in a bin. Be sure to put the bin in the freezer compartment as the cubes will last much longer that way.
