We had a discussion in our law class today - to prepare as indigenous lawyers about racism we will face from our higher ups, law society, and how disproportionately aboriginal people are treated in society. How are you going to prepare to deal with the power differentials because even if you are in a power position you can be treated as less than. We need to talk about this, what we should do ITS NOT GOING TO GO AWAY: my professor made a good point about focusing on the work & doing your best and beating the BS by being your best.Sometimes you hand in your law memo, saying I know the law this is an amazing legal analysis, you will not detract from my work because thats a waste of time. One way of dealing is to be your good damn best at your career, leadership, and work to maintain a difference for those who need your help. Ignore those who try to take away that skill building process, because your better than those who say your not... and it is up to you to prove that you are in fact amazing with or without someones validation. In other words - I know what Im doing & theres nothing you can do about it, I got this...
