We have 2 DAYS to change 1 VOTE and stop a Parkway bridge through Jackson Park. Two more days to STOP a bridge through Jackson Park Four lanes of traffic through Jackson Park? Thats what City Council voted to do last Wednesday. We can stop it by changing ONE vote. The PARKS not PARKWAYS campaign is at its most critical stage. Last week, Peterborough City Council approved the full Parkway Extension. An attempt to remove its worst feature, a four-lane bridge through Jackson Park, lost 6-5 — by ONE VOTE. The Jackson Park Pond (Photo by Susan Day-Jeschke)Over 6,000 people have signed a petition to protect the Park — the jewel of the community — from this unnecessary and unbalanced plan. Over 1,300 of us sent comments to Council opposing the Jackson Park route — the most expensive and destructive option. So far, it means nothing. Our voices, letters, phone calls, signs, ads and petitions are being ignored — by Councillors who are listening to multinational road engineers instead of community vision. There are two things you can do, today and tomorrow, to change this result. 1.TODAY: Tell Council to vote against the Jackson Park bridge. Visit: city.peterborough.on.ca/site3.asp 2.TOMORROW: Come to the Council meeting at the Evinrude Centre — Wednesday November 20th, at 6:30 pm. We need Council to feel our numbers.
