We have a Bagpiper to pipe as into and out of every town on this years Mega-Challenge (Brisbane to Canberra - 1,300km). Iain hales from the West Coast of Scotland and settled in Australia with his family in 1988. In 1963 aged 15 he enlisted into the British Army, joining the Junior Leaders Infantry Battalion, 18 months later he joined his Parent Regiment where he spent the next six years. It was in 1970 when he had the opportunity to try-out for SAS Selection and on passing was engaged to serve with D Squadron of 22 Special Air Service (22 SAS). Iain rotated through the various attachments and deployments of “The Regiment” for the next 18 years. In 1988 he arrived in Australia and it was not long before he found himself serving in Training Wing of 2 Commando Company, 1 Commando Regiment ADF. During his 25 years regular service, he accumulated 14 years on Active Deployments in Borneo, Northern Ireland and Oman. After a low point in his life he decided to occupy his time learning the Great Highland War Pipes (Bagpipes), and this has taken over his live with a great passion; so much so that he found himself back in uniform as a guest piper (unpaid) with the Pipes and Drums of the 5/6 Royal Victoria Regiment. Apart from military parades Iain pipes at weddings and funerals and is the piper for 2 Commando Company Association and the SASR Association (Victoria). Iain has been a member of the Australian SAS Association since 1988 and remains a loyal members of the British SAS Association. Iain understands too well the battles that veterans find themself in after their service and requested that he join the Wandering Warriors, so long as he could bring his pipes.
