We have a couple of announcements today about meeting changes effective January 4th, 2015. Well post them separately for readability. Change #1: IVA Intro meetings Weve been conducting orientation meetings before our advocacy practice meetings for some time now (see description at the end). They are vital to efficiently sharing our positions, preparing advocates to participate in an abolitionist context, and learning about potential new volunteers. However, given the unpredictability of attendance, we have changed the format from three introductory meetings into a single orientation session, which will be held periodically throughout the year and announced in this newsletter. (Look for an event soon for our first one-off orientation to be held at 1pm this Sunday.) If after reading through our website you feel compelled to get involved in our activities before the next meeting occurs, we will work with you to find a time to on-board you with an orientation. Simply get in touch at [email protected] to arrange that. Description: The orientation describes the IVAs moral position on animals and veganism, looking at what makes animals morally relevant, what we mean by animal rights, and so on. We also share our concerns about the animal-protection movement. FInally, we offer the IVAs positive proposal in theoretical terms (e.g., vegan education, the importance of interpersonal advocacy, adoption/fostering, etc.), and step through the work that the IVA does.
