We have a lot of hard work ahead of us here at The TreeHouse Australia. Homeless rates are rising with over 105,000 homeless Australians counted last census. Of those, a third are families and of those families, 80% will be turned away from crisis accommodation. As mentioned in the article below, in a recent study it was discovered that less than 10% of rental properties could be classed as affordable. Add to that the fact that a staggering 2 million Australians live below the poverty line (of which half a million of those are children) and the situation runs the risk of spiralling out of control. At The TreeHouse Australia we are determined to reduce the growing rate of homelessness in Australia but, in the meantime, we need to raise funds to help those families and children struggling and suffering.
