We have another Golden eagle in our possession, needing surgery. We received a call yesterday from dispatch regarding an eagle that had collided with a vehicle near the port-of-entry just outside of Helper, Utah. We found the highway patrol there, with the eagle and the vehicle involved. Their windshield had cracked the entire length of the vehicle. They eagle had struck the windshield and then became caught in the luggage compartment on top of their vehicle. He was still alive, but had massive trauma to his right wing and most certainly internal injuries. We wrapped his wing and drove him up to our vets office for x-rays. The x-rays showed a compound fracture of the right humerus. His surgery is scheduled for Monday. We have him on pain medication and antibiotics. The fracture looks repairable, being mid-shaft. We are still in an uncertain period so every day is up in the air. We have moved the Wellington Merlin out into her final flight area, anticipating release. If we see the improvement we are hoping to see, she could be released within a week or so.
