We have been slowly, little by little, removing grass in favor of native groundcover. This is not only a must for our tortoise patients, but it encourages bees, butterflies and bat food (moon garden!) to our property. After many, many failures and more successes due to our sickly green thumbs, the natives have taken root where they are happiest. We have seen an increase in our wildlife visitors since we started. That makes us happy. As an added bonus we have reduced our water usage (thus bill!) due to our native use. Instead of mowing, edging and using a blower (!?) to "beautify" our space. We use that valuable time for other endeavors. Its still a work in progress but thats okay with us..we have learned much (grasshopper) since we started;)
