We have finally been given a diagnosis for Joe....H Pylori and Villous Atrophy. The Villous Atrophy is damage to the villi in the small intestines which absorb the nutrients from the food you eat. Joes are flattened and being destroyed by the H Pylori virus that produces excessive amounts of acid in the stomach and forming ulcers all of which Joe has. This prevents his body from absorbing the fiber and other nutrients he needs to prevent the problems he has been experiencing. The H Pylori is treated with 2 different antibiotics and protonics to help fix the stomach lining and repair the ulcer he has. Once the ulcer and the H Pylori is gone his villi should repair themselves. Also, upon reading about this virus, Marty and I have discovered that a Gluten allergy can be the cause of the Villous Atrophy which lead to the H Pylori being able to grow. Reading about Gluten almost all the symptoms that Joe has and all the autoimmune problems he has is associated with Gluten. His sinus problems, allergies to outdoor and indoor substances, and other colds or flu sicknesses he may get. So to sum this up.. The only way to really tell if it is the Gluten or not is to become Gluten free for 90 days and see if any changes occur. Any moms out there who deal with Gluten Allergies please help me in figuring out the foods that have Gluten and any foods that your kids love that Joe might. We go back next Thursday to see the GI Specialist and I plan on talking to them about this, in the meanwhile it doesnt hurt to start a Gluten free diet not only for Joe but for me as well considering I have acid problems also.
