We have great sons of Kenya and they make me a proud Kenyan when I read about their work and especially their service to our country as well as humanity. This week I am reading about Gen. Lazaro Sumbeiywo, the Chief Mediator during the Sudan mediation process that led to the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Gen. Sumbeiywo shares a birth month/year with my mother, July 1947. He is a humble christian who beliefs in the power of prayer and family values and who worked diligently to ensure the signing of the CPA that ushered in peace in Sudan and which later led to the independence of South Sudan. Reading the story of this great Kenyan has made me realize that whatever your background, no matter how humble your beginning, everything is possible and there are no heights you cannot scale.
