We know of course that Christian people have Jesus in mind even when they sing only about ‘you’, and we need not ask, but why can’t we articulate his name properly? We are commanded, “Whatsoever things ye do, do them in the name of Jesus”. Surely this applies to worship songs? At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, not at the name of ’you’. Nor do we heal the sick in the name of ‘you’. Christian worship is unique. It goes beyond Hebrew Psalms and rejoices in the finished work of Christ, His Cross, redemption and the whole Christian vastness. We were once identified as a ‘Jesus movement’, because we sang so much about Jesus – and couldn’t help it. “Jesus is the joy of living…”, “Jesus, the very thought of thee with sweetness fills my breast…” God blesses you through Jesus.
