We left Valbruna (thanks Marco Tonazzi) and headed over to Alleghe - TopicsExpress

We left Valbruna (thanks Marco Tonazzi) and headed over to Alleghe Italy a few days ago. Emily found this great 2 bdrm (brand new) apartment right on the lake and it wasnt at Switzerland prices. Its right off the lake and surrounded by some amazing peaks, roads and villages. There are literally dozens of roads and loops (and climbs) to ride in all directions. The 1st day here we road over to Cortina and around via Giau and Falzarego passes. Maybe add in a couple more for good measure :) 10 K ft. in climbing or so. Went out for some Pizza at this really cool old pizzeria, called Apres Ski (hmm interesting name for such a cool place). Check out the chef in one of the pics. Yesterday we went up to the top of Falzarego pass for some hiking and a bit of Via Feratta for me. Insane scenery, check out some of the pics. While on the Feratta another homey from Montana told me about this crazy tunnel (with stairs, lots of them) that the Italians built inside of Falzarego mtn. It starts a bit down from the top of the tram and descends about 1000 vertical feet. Now of course we just had to hike over and up to check it out. All sorts of military bunkers and fox holes from WW1. Today Ems wanted to check out a bike loop to the east of Alleghe, yes it had a couple of passes (Staulanza and Duran) and a modest 6 K +ft. in 60 km. Not much for flats around this place.... Afterwards, we treated ourselves to a local bakery for some traditional Italian sweets, Yum! Oh did mention they have some pretty good wine around this area as well :)
