We live in a 2-story home. Last night, Aaron and I were sitting downstairs when he calmly says Is that a rope coming down the side of the house? Not answering him back, I FLEW upstairs to find 4-year-old Terry on his tiptoes leaning out the side of the window with a brown extension cord in his hands - (he later said he was fishing)! I literally dove across the room, grabbed his feet and pulled him down so fast it scared us both! Then before I knew it, I whipped his tail in one of those saving-your-kid-from-a-speeding-car, but-grateful-to-God-theyre-okay moments ... I was shaking and so upset, I just locked the window, turned off the lights and sent he and Malachi to bed right then. About 10 minutes later, I calmed down and tried to tell he and Malachi why they could never, ever unlock the window, open the window and push the screen out!! Me: Do you know why Aunt Jeannine got so upset at the window being open tonight? Malachi: Uhmmm, you didnt want bugs coming into the house? Me, totally stunned!: Uhmm, no ... Terry, forgetting he was in trouble and raising his hand excitedly like hes in class: Oh, oh, I know, I know! Is it is because it snowed again and you didnt want the snow to come in? Me, still shocked!: Hummm, no ... I guess you guys arent quite getting this ... Malachi: Is it because you dont want the carpet to get wet if the snow does come in? Me, blank stare, but also slowly laughing ... No, you crazy rascals, Its because you guys could fall out the window and smack that concrete slab down below! And if you did, you would probably never, ever get back up! Malachi, looking thoughtful and rubbing his chin: Hummm, I was gonna say something like that ... I bet that would hurt our bones, wouldnt it? Me: Yeah, among other things! KIDS!! Lord have mercy! #thanku4protection! #dangersseenandunseen!!
