We love to rationalize our love for idols. When Moses confronted Aaron on why he crafted the golden calf, he said, “Whoever has any gold jewelry, take it off.’ Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!” –Exodus 32:24. Aaron just threw some precious, costly gold into the fire, and by chance a golden calf emerged. Sure Aaron, sure. But we’re no different with our excuses for creating our idols and holding them close. “I had all intentions to come home, but there was a bar offering happy hour specials.” “There’s a mall right across the street where we are staying! With awesome sales going on.” “She was all alone eating lunch and needed company.” “Look at all the emails on my laptops from work. You kids go outside and play.” How do idols get crafted?
