We own Victoria 204 weeks 43,44,45, Dona Lola; and Holbein 8 week 26 Elmers Court - both very tasty morsels for MRL. We are not business people or lawyers, but a few points have occurred to us looking at the voting results. Across the resorts approximately 9,000 votes were for the MRL proposal to hand over apartments to them with the option of paying to leave, approximately 1,300 wanting to keep things as they are. First of all - 9,000 wanting the option to leave is not exactly a resounding endorsement of MRLs current performance of managing the resorts. Presumably many of the 9,000 will leave ultimately (if they have the capital to do so) as that is what they voted for. The remainder may find it difficult to obtain their holiday weeks when and where they wish using the Mickey Mouse MRL points when they are in competition with Elite Option owners, RCI etc. This will be particularly the case if, as we believe will happen, resorts close for non-profitable months, Sept to April (with reduced facilities and security for private on site owners). Who would want to pay maintenance for weeks they cannot use? More bad debts? The no voters, approximately 1,300 will be unhappy with the result and, if they have the money, will leave. People presently having problems in paying their annual maintenance will hardly be in a position to be able to suddenly put their hands on 4 years worth in one hit. More bad debts? As many 1 week owners regularly extend their holiday by renting additional weeks by negotiating with on site reception, MRL will also lose out on that revenue when owners buy their way out of the Club. On a personal note, in July we owned three weeks in Dona Lola, and one week at Elmers Court, all much loved, and we had a small amount of savings. In September we will have no holidays and no savings - no choice for us as my husband is disabled and we need to be assured of the apartments and weeks we have chosen.
